The film "Do the Right Thing" directed by
Spike Lee was a great film because I believe it helped show how bad racism
was. It stills exists today, but it was way worse back than and the films draws
this out perfectly. Racism existed between everyone and no one was safe. The
film really opened my eyes on how bad it was and how I can help change it.
Other than how
much the film touched me, the film was well directed from characters, to dialogue,
to camera angles. The characters were well developed, and I was able to have an
understanding on who they were and how they acted even before we were introduced
to them. The dialogue was excellent because it really captured the
relationships between the characters. People would speak differently to certain
people depending on who they were speaking to. For example, Sal would speak to Radio
Raheem in a rude disrespecting way because he was interrupting his place of
business, but he would talk to Jade in a respectful, loving manner. Mookie
would talk to Sal in a semiprofessional way, but he would talk to Buggin’ Out
in a slang type of way. Finally, I felt the camera angles were great because it
captured different perspectives depending where the angle was coming from. When
Radio Raheem comes into Sal’s blasting music, we see him come in from Sal’s perspective
which is as peaceful, quiet business all of a sudden interrupted by loud
rap/hip hop. But, we also see it from Buggin’ Out’s perspective when he looks
up at the “Wall of Fame” and he notices
there are no “brothers” on the wall. In conclusion, I really enjoyed this movie
and would definitely recommend it.
